Michel Erhart (c. 1440 to 1445 – after 1522, Ulm) was a German late Gothic sculptor who lived and worked in Ulm. Erhart spent his journeyman years in various regions including Konstanz and the Netherlands before finally settling in Ulm around 1469, where works by him are extant from around 1469–1522. He worked in the workshop of Jörg Syrlin the Elder, as did his sons Gregor Erhart and Bernhard Erhart. After 1474 he apparently had his own workshop with numerous apprentices. More

This startling image combines two devotional themes-the Trinity and Souls resting in the bosom of Old Testament-patriarch Abraham. The Trinity includes God, seated and blessing with his right hand; the crucified Christ; and the Holy Spirit symbolized by the dove painted at the top of the cross. A cloth draped across God’s chest contains small figures representing souls. This image offered comfort to its viewers, including the donors of the sculpture, who kneel at God’s feet, and hold scrolls which once contained their prayers. More

This engaging group of the Virgin and Child with Saint Joseph was once the centerpiece of a large altarpiece. The Virgin and Child face in the same direction as the Child raises his right hand in blessing. Their posture suggests they may have been part of Holy Kinship group with Saint Anne or of an Adoration of the Magi. The orb in his left hand symbolizes Christ’s role as spiritual ruler of the world. Niklaus Weckmann was a German sculptor in the period 1481-1526 in Ulm. He first worked for the Younger orders from Jörg Syrlin and developed his workshop in Ulm with time for trendsetting South German sculptor workshop. He is the Ulm School assigned. Exact life data are unknown. More
